It's been awhile since I've done any shooting in Chicago...I guess there is no better way to return by attending one of the city's largest outdoor events: the annual Air and Water Show. About 2 hours into the event I decided that I wanted to get a different vantage point from the people on the ground so I headed up to the Hancock Observatory to get some shots from there. It's been a long time since i've roamed the city in search for eye catching things, I can go 2 hours sometimes without taking a single photo I'm glad today was different and reinspiring as I managed to come across plenty of things that were interesting to me.

Good to see that the trek up to the Hancock Skydeck was worth it. Great shot.

Your efforts were definitely worth it. That's quite a breathtaking shot. Not one you typically see.

Really good shot. The way the planes are pin-sharp and the the way the smoke diffuses gives the illusion of narrow depth-of-field and makes the planes look tiny. Would be absolutely perfect if you cropped it square to just include the top of the sea.

Archie-

This is a great photo! You reall capture the full arc of the planes and the smoke, and your high vantage point is so apparent from the size of the sailboats. Only in Chicago could you get a picture like this from so high up. Wonderful shot! I took many pics from my office window during rehearsals on Friday (I work in NBC tower) and the pics I got were tremendously lame. Nice work!

Nice that you were able to capture both the air AND the water in this image - great vantage point!

Such a cool pic. The thing that grabs me is the contrast between the white smoke and the dark smoke combined with the red planes. SOOO cool.

Wow. This shot KILLS! Love that you included the sailboats for perspective and scale.
